This is in many ways a departure from the earlier material of the Dirty Three. There are no 10 minute epics, the instrumentation is more varied (some songs feature bazouki, bagpipes, organs etc.) and the sound is a lot clearer than other albums.
It is still distinctively the Dirty Three though. Most of the 19 songs on the album are reflective, melancholic pieces.
