Baxter Dury is not one of the world's greatest singers but he does possess a mesmeric spoken word voice which drips with West London vowels and intonation and he has a real way with lyrics. His sound world is very much Histoire de Melody Nelson era Serge Gainsbourg with Leonard Cohen style female backing vocals. It's all sonorous bass lines and lush analog synths.
