DMZ - Relics LP
Highly recommended.
A rare, under-appreciated slice of acidic American revival. DMZ, a Boston band whose surroundings (this is only 2 or 3 years before Jerry's Kids, the Freeze, SS Decontrol) afford them relative obscurity, are a perfect example of the proverbial sleeper.
'Relics' a collection of some of the best garage pieces ever produced by an American band ("When I Get Off", for example) and some demos, also includes a cover of the almighty Elevators' "You're Gonna Miss Me" that, surprisingly, holds up nearly as well as the original when taken into its context.
Guitars? Good. Organs? Good. Singer? Abrasive, raw, rude. Drums? Pounding, delayed. A place for everything, and everything in its place. There's nothing new here, but there's not supposed to be. This is incredible garage revival material, with all the heart it needs to catapult itself into the annals of idolised eclectica.
