Brutal Panda
CHERUBS - Heroin Man LP
Highest recommendation.
At last, a reasonably-priced reissue of this classic.
The guitars and drums are completely blown out and the incomprehensible vocals really add to the feeling like you've OD'd on an opioid (presumably heroin). Some of the songs here are pretty funny but others are just plain sinister.
"Cockpit - Kiss The Shine"s opening riff sounds pure evil, and the way the vocals get even more distorted in the middle section never fails to give me goosebumps. "Venus Flytrap" sounds like it's a live recording, which gives it a terrific sense of energy.
Cherubs manage to really throw in a creative aspect to this project with weird sampling that you'd think would clash with the rhythms on here but in the end actually enhance it. Just look to the the intro "Stag Party" with it's blaring alarm that waves back and forth as the meat of the track punches you directly in the mouth, or the cute video game loop found on "Baby Huey" actually being the basis for the entire tempo/beat of the song.
