A raw kind of sadness. The overwhelming feel of this album is 'despair', not bitterness, although it sounds as though she is referring to the bitter experience of transforming from the adored to the loathed in your lover's eyes. This album has a dark, velvety sort of atmosphere, instrumented with strings and jingly percussion instruments, often swooping with an Eastern feel. It is executed musically with Ndegeocello's usual virtuosity but is more personal rather than political, unlike her typical releases.
