Cor-Crane Secret lacked the props and publicity of Nirvana’s Nevermind, the obvious stoner leanings of Smashing Pumpkins’ Gish, and the cute quirkiness of Pavement’s Slanted and Enchanted but their propulsive, unremitting rhythm section was in its day second to none, and the band’s bell-pealing guitar lines and lazy-hazy vocals populated a planet all its own.
So, no, Cor-Crane Secret is neither grungy enough for the grunge scene nor linear enough to be properly classified as math rock. And no, it’s much too explosive for shoegazing. Instead, the album’s all about ass-shakin’ grooves and jaw-droppin’ hooks.
