Ghost has always been a band derided by metal tastemakers for not being heavy enough or having an image that belies their hooky, infectious blend of ABBA influenced, dorky pastiches of 70's AOR Hard Rock and, on the earlier records, early Doom Metal.

And while some of this is understandable - it's hard to look at an image of Papa Emeritus and not imagine some sort of high production budget Black Metal project - to criticize Ghost for their mainstream appeal or their pop-influenced attitude to writing songs is to miss the forest for the trees.

Widely regarded as their finest album.
