At its core, this is another album by Brian Eno that showcases his skills as an ambient music heavyweight, but it goes a bit farther than that in several ways.
First of all, the timing of this record is perfect. After the insanity and overall negativity that was 2016, starting off 2017 with a quiet hour of serene ambiance from Eno himself is pretty much ideal. Second of all, the mood that this album creates in a dark room is undeniably powerful. The textures bouncing off of the walls combined with the darkness of the room on the cover, suggesting that the listener should do the same creates an atmosphere that is undeniably serene. Finally, the recording quality is immaculate. The lows are very low, the highs are very high, and everything interacts with each other in a way that feels very methodical, planned out, and beautiful, thanks to the amazingly high quality sound, but then again, it's Brian Eno. What else would one expect from one of the greatest producers of all time?
To sum it up, this is a way above average album by Brian Eno that really showcases his talents as a musician, producer, and while this is not an album for intense listening, it succeeds highly at what it is trying to do.
