Touch And Go
JESUS LIZARD - Head LP
Deluxe remastered reissue.
Highly recommended.
Industrial strength riffage that's clever, witty, and - best of all - catchy. Make no mistake, these callous bastards know how to nail a track together.
And that scoundrel Yow retches up some of the damnedest couplets:
That dirty girl led him drunk away / And left him in the sewer/ It was right there at that then time / He knew he should never have screwed her
The one that properly gets me is "Pastoral". Set in a picturesque rural location in Plymouth county it describes someone bleeding to death in the noonday sun. Then "Waxeater" bursts in, like NoMeansNo being hauled in front of drumhead court-martial and dragged off to a firing squad. Yow over the Tannoy, yelling garbled instructions.
The rhythm section also deserve special praise, and also the guitarist, plus the vocalist.
Oh and yes, Albini.
