FAUX REPLICA - Presenting! LP
Insert with lyrics. Includes d/l code.
Highly recommended.
New musical project that combines the talents of Roxy Epoxy (of yes, The Epoxies) and Chris Pierce (of Doc Hopper). The band play this sweet combination of synth-led new-wave and riff-y punk rock; electro-rock of yesteryear but punkier and more interesting than that sounds. It is a cool collaborative project, bringing together the talents of the pair: there are, of course many comparisons to be made between Faux Replica and The Epoxies, in that they are both synth-driven punk projects and benefit from Roxy’s powerful and pretty unique songwriting stylings, but the two can be distinguished by Chris’s raucous and discordant guitar work, giving the album a rougher, distorted sound and greater bite.
Presenting! is a pretty eclectic mix of sounds, bridging ’77 punk rock, ‘80s new wave and ‘90s pop-punk, but remains purposeful and coherent throughout. While there is the obvious indebtedness to Devo here, the atmospheric, fuzzed-out and poetic punk oddities on the album recall the likes of X-Ray Spex, Siouxsie and the Banshees and X.
