The Pheromoans - expanded to a six-piece and headed in more of an experimental pop direction than their previous spindly post-punky outings with the sound now layered in languorous vintage synth tones which lend them a new romantic feel, although the songwriting has that whimsical slacker pop feel of bands like The Intelligence (particularly ‘Fake Surfers’-era), only with a very English sense of sardonic self-sabotage and pastoral quirkiness.
