Definitive jazz album of the 2000's thus far?
This has the narrative of The Black Saint and the Sinner Lady, the orchestral crescendos and claustrophobia of Song of Innocence and the frantic yet tasteful playing of Coltrane before he spaced out. I also hear shades of late 80's Zappa jazz and John McLaughlin fusion though there is no guitar on the album. There's also a bit of funk and zydeco-flavored soul playing spliced in here and there which when added to the occasional 20-man chorus makes for a very unique listening experience.
