Jazz Is Dead
ADRIAN YOUNGE - The American Negro LP
Double album housed in tri-fold gatefold jacket.
Received very high critical acclaim upon release. We've censored the cover somewhat as Instagram seem to be taking offence at many of the album cover images we're uploading, such as side-boob of Bloodhound Gang and a shirtless boy from U2's Boy.
Adrian Younge is behind some of the greatest jazz albums to come out since the '70s, and this album is no exception. Every song is amazing, combining jazz-funk with gorgeous, string-backed soul.
The best parts come when he integrates other genres like soul. Much of this record is devoted to spoken word interludes between most songs. At first these were annoying but we've grown to see them as part of the record's flow. They are hit or miss though, some were really interesting, like one about oxygen connecting slavery to modern police brutality, but some are just average woke talking points we've heard previously.
