Remastered from original tapes and mastering by Kuniyuki Takahashi.
One of the best reissues of 2019. In a reissue landscape full of also-rans and second-tier titles it can be hard to see past the hype but this one is truly not to be missed. SOLD OUT AT THE SOURCE.
Highly recommended.

Originally released in 1980 the lone album from BGM is one of the most celebrated pieces of underground Japanese wave ever recorded. Led by a teenaged Takayuki Shiraishi – the pioneering house and ambient producer – BGM took elements of post-punk, no wave, krautrock and proto-industrial and made a racket all their own.

Full of stuttering rhythms, shrill synthesizers and acerbic guitars Back Ground Music emerged from the same murky waters that brought us This Heat and Suicide, with elements of Talking Heads and ESG in there too.

Originally released on legendary experimental music label in Osaka, Vanity Records, run by Yuzuru Agi when Shiraishi was a high school student. Shiraishi was influenced by the music of post punk, new wave, krautrock – this album is his unique mixture of that kind of musical style. One of the most in-demand alternative music albums from Japan finally gets reissued.
