BUTCHER SHOP - Complete Discography CD
CD only.
Wow, you want an obscure 80's underground supergroup, then here's exhibit #1. Fronted by Tex Perkins (Beasts of Bourbon, Cruel Sea), displaying the myriad guitar skills of Kid Congo Powers (Cramps, Gun Club) and Spencer Jones (Johnnies, Beasts of Bourbon, Gun Club), the bass stylings of Phil Clifford (Box the Jesuit), and power drumming of Billy Pommer Jr (Johnnies, Gun Club), The Butcher Shop originated in the UK when Perkins and Powers decided to collaborate.
It fell apart pretty quickly and Tex returned to Sydney but when Powers hit Australia with The Bad Seeds in 1987 (or '88?) they decided to form a pick up band to record some of the material they'd written.
Musically it's even sloppier and more drug-addled than The Beasts of Bourbon (The Beasts ended up covering 'Hard For You' on their 'Sour Mash' album) ever were and 'Wasteland' is a obscure nugget of a song with some nice droning didgeridoo offsetting the stonily hypnotic guitars and bassline.
