DAVID BOWIE - A Divine Symmetry LP
Highly recommended.
Some have said it's the definitive form of Hunky Dory.
It really is incredible how, across the board, this new edition of Hunky Dory radically ch-ch-ch-ch-changes my perspective on the album.
This is the first time I’ve gotten into one of these alternate versions of albums that legacy artists are keen on putting out. Let's face it, I ain't gonna be listening to Fleetwood Mac though!
Culled from a lengthy and expensive boxset for this standalone vinyl release, piqued my interest because I’ve always had some sort of disconnect with this widely-loved classic.
Just as hoped, A Divine Symmetry finally lets me fall in love with this material. the angle that producer Ken Scott seems to take with this new edition is that of bringing the listener closer to Bowie and the band’s creation of the music. It’s not necessarily stripped-down - rather, it’s rougher, less cleaned-up and, consequently, less commercial.
