FREELOADERS - Through The Sound Barrier CD
CD only. Very rare.
Highly recommended. Fond memories of watching them tear up Melbourne stages!
The Freeloaders were one of the hottest garage/psych/punk bands to come out of Melbourne (and Australia) in the '90s. Featuring members of The Philisteins from Hobart/Adelaide and God from Melbourne these guys wrote fantastic songs in four different rock genres and blew away most other bands when they played live. One former bass player, Dave Grey, now plays with Rocket Science.
Freeloaders never got the attention or airplay they deserved, mainly coz they had no sense of self-promotion, 'tho they supported more popular bands like You Am I and were featured on tribute albums to The Scientists and The Troggs, amongst others.
Musical influences were diverse and included the Byrds, Seeds, Who, 13th Floor Elevators, Plasticland, Lollipop Shoppe, DMZ, Stooges, early Neil Young, and much more.
Acidic lyrics, killer riffs and great melodies combine to lift their music to a higher plane than 99% of their contemporaries. Features an alternate version of the prescient "Dead Before My Time".
The death of frontman Guy Lucas in 1998 was a great tragedy.
