NEW ORDER - Power, Corruption & Lies LP
Highly recommended.
New Order started to crystallise as their own entity separate from Joy Division with the 1981 single Procession / Everything's Gone Green by losing themselves in electronic music.
Power, Corruption And Lies is their manifesto, laying out their peculiar sound inspired by Kraftwerk, obscure italo-disco singles and their discovery of the New York City club scene, while always standing out from their peers thanks to Peter Hook’s melodic high-pitched bass guitar.
The revolutionary “Blue Monday” was left out of the tracklist, with “5 8 6” trying to compensate for its absence by using the same recipe. It’s just as well since “Blue Monday” would have unbalanced the album anyway.
