Oneida is a NY-based experimental outfit 20 years into its career. We know, that's not really the most promising premise in a world where everyone and their mother makes experimental/noise/ambient/drone music. Just type any of those words into Bandcamp and you'll be shrouded with countless works, many of which could have very well been influenced by Oneida themselves.
Romance is the group's 13th non-collaborative studio album and first for vastly underrated Indiana label Joyful Noise, home to artists like Deerhoof, Joan of Arc, WHY?, and Sebadoh.
At various points, Romance is akin to but not an exact replica of:
* Animal Collective
* Stereolab
* Wolf Eyes
* Shellac
* early Phish
* Thee Oh Sees
* Battles
The general vibe here is a mixture of swirling, dense, repeating bursts of ambient noise with more emphasis than usual on vocal accompaniment. There are many breaks from the formula, though.
