PAUL CARY - Ghost Of A Man LP
$44.95
Our highest recommendation.
Years ago - at Strangeworld's old location - a good customer and I were standing near the stereo chatting and I looked over and saw the sole copy of Ghost Of A Man in the racks. It was only there as I'd found an extra copy in my collection when I opened the store. I wrote a nice blurb, which people then ignored for 12+ months, flicking right past this unusual cover by an artist unknown to Melbournians. Having an idea of that customer's tastes, I suggested he might dig the out-of-print Paul Cary LP. He happily took the advice.
Weeks later, he excitedly informed me of how much of a hit in his household the Cary LP was - the kids, the wife, the dog - they all loved it's stompin', yet haunting, rollickin' good time. He and I have occasionally laughed at how many people - including himself - had ignored the glowing reference stuck on the Ghost Of A Man sleeve, but what good fortune he had to score it.
Thee Oh Sees shared a split 7" with Cary in 2009, showing impeccable taste by John Dwyer. I've sometimes wondered how it came about.
Anyway, treat the household and snare this reissue of Ghost Of A Man now. As you enjoy his set at Boogie 2022 you can tell your friends you've been into him for years.
Paul Cary also has a new album, Raven, and, along with the vinyl-less Coyote, continues a hot streak of damn fine albums.
