A return to basics and all for the better, all for the best. Her voice truly shines in this kind of environment, her vocals taking center stage in the midst of guitars, following a melody that invites you to commiserate. The songs are of a darker, sadder hue. Slow, methodical, operatic almost. The lyrics ringing in the heart and the instruments allowing the words and her voice to take space near the center, a spotlight on the blood letting.

When a song like "Mistakes" comes on, one of the more sonically dense, faster, more single sounding compositions, it's a smart change of pace when it's necessary. This is kind of her best album.
