Bulbous Monocle
THINKING FELLERS UNION LOCAL 282 - Admonishing The Bishops 12"
How does a band come across a sound like this? They don't set out to create this sound, do they? Do they just stumble across it after playing together for years? How do you decide one day that a rollicking, mandolin-driven coda about some vague paternal concept is a joyous thing?
Sure, it's a bit noisy, but the noise doesn't define the music. There is plenty of string bending and diminished chords to create a slightly "not quite right" feel. The singers flat voice adds to this off-kilter atmosphere. At the same time, the songs chug along, naturally flowing from soft passages about everyone having a million dollars to a super simple riff with smash-you-over-head noise.
Every song is a treat. Thinking Fellers in top form, without any "Feller filler" to muck up the lot!
1993’s mini-masterpiece originally released on the Matador label, this title and most of the “Fellers” discography has been out of print for over 25 years. Now, newly remastered by Mark Gergis (Sublime Frequencies et.al) this perfect EP is sounding better than ever.
