This is a wonderful pseudo-live album. It is recorded live, but it is in a studio. He invited a small studio audience to give it that real jazz club like feel. He pulls it off really well; the songs and chatter flow very well and make for an enjoyable experience. It's one of those albums not to pass up. Tom Waits is an entertainer at heart; he's humorous and he can write some great songs. The songs themselves are wonderful. Lots of longer monologue and story telling type songs. The standouts on here are "Better OFf Without A Wife", "Warm Beer and Cold Women" and "Big Joe and Phantom 309". Definitely a favourite album from Tom Waits; it's hard to pick an all time favourite, but this is up there. An album to check out if you're into jazz, blues and Tom Waits. Amazing.
